Central Processing Unit
A Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the brain of the computer. This is what runs all your programs, calculations, and operations.

Lift the CPU slot hatch up on your motherboard. The CPU should be carefully placed inside the CPU slot located on the motherboard. Close the slot back down after inserting the CPU.

The CPU should have thermal paste applied to it. Apply paste about the size of a penny. Do not apply too much paste. The CPU cooler should be placed above the CPU.

The two major CPU manufacturers are AMD and Intel. Deciding between these two brands generally depends on what price range you are looking at. It is better to evaluate the available products to see what fits your needs, instead of comparing companies as a whole. AMD's CPUs have small pins on them while Intel's does not.
